Sun’s here! Looking for a cheap, low-carbon, holiday in the UK this summer?

http://www.climatecamp.org.uk/index.php – 14-21 August, somewhere in England

Probably most of you heard about the Camp for Climate Action last year. For those who don’t know, it’s a big get together for activists to talk, make plans and practise a week of sustainable living.

www.big-green-gathering.com – 1-5 August, Cheddar Gorge, Somerset

The Big Green Gathering. It’s partly a festival, partly a demo for alternative energy. I went in 2005 and it was amazing. Beautiful location, and no lairy lager louts.

www.stokefest.co.uk – Sunday 10 June, Stoke Newington, London N16

And closer to home for fellow Londoners: Stokefest. Always a blast for all the family, and great for green networking.

The Camp for Climate Action will take place by Heathrow this year.

http://www.climatecamp.org.uk/location.php

A unique and symbolic venue for an amazing event.

A chance to take part in a week of low-impact living, debates, workshops and high-impact direct action.

With a holiday offer like that, who needs to get on a plane?!

(Excuse my enthusiasm. But if it is half as fun and inspiring as last year’s camp, it will definitely be worth the trip.)

CRAG workshops at festivals

Think we need to offer workshops for climate camp (and big green gathering if not too late). Andy did Climate Camp last year- i could do it this year. Jessica, if you are going to BGG, do you fancy doing that – think you get cheaper entry?

I am offering a workshop on composting at the BGG this year, in the climate camp area. This will include why to do it, how to do it and it’s role in reducing our carbon footprint. I would be happy to offer a CRAG workshop as well or to meet up with another CRAGger or a bunch of you and offer this workshop at the climate camp area. I’ll be camping with the litter-pick/recycling/composting crew …. oh and for your info there’ll be no composting on site this year as Government regs mean it aint allowed in case a bit of meat gets in… it’ll all be driven to a licenced composting site!

CRAGs at Climate Camp

Workshops at Climate Camp have asked us to do a CRAGs workshop again. I will fill in the form so we have a slot. Would be great if we had members of a number of different CRAGs from around the place to share their experience with the workshop goers. Any takers?

pleased to meet you

Great to meet some fellow CRAGgers for the first time here at Climate Camp. The CRAGs workshop was attended by Despina and Nick from Leeds, Reevsie from Leicester, Guy and John from Islington, David from Sevenoaks, Anna and another (sorry, I can’t remember your name) from Peckham, myself from Glasgow and several others. We had a chance to chat at greater length after the workshop. Guy took some notes and will post them here soon.

Climate Camp has every bit as inspiring and peaceful as last year.

The workshops have been excellent if a little daunting. Lots of mention of carbon rationing. Mayer Hillman now seems much more pessimistic about our ability to “save the planet” and said that government diktat is the only way forward and that what we must do is what we would do if our doctor told us that we had cancer and only had 5 years left to live! George Monbiot talked of the need to cut our emissions by 110-120% rather than “just” 90% by 2030. Zero carbon is now the minimum sustainable level of emissions!

Camp is now moving from workshop mode to action mode. Check out www.indymedia.org.uk for news of these.

good to meet you too, and Peckham Crag

Hi, enjoyed the Crag workshop at climate camp and moves to set up a Peckham Crag are afoot. Great to see so many resources on this site. I would welcome pictures and messages from other Crag groups with a ‘welcome to the community’ and ‘you are supported and encouraged’ vibes, so that those who respond to initial Crag invitations have their resolve reinforced by seeing tangible evidence of a vibrant national network. This is what I saw at climate camp and it’s inspiring…

By the way, my name’s Zaria and I was the one facilitating the question-answer process. would be glad to make contact with other craggies.

Hi Zaria - good to meet you

Hi Zaria – good to meet you too, and all the other faces to names.

It was a good session, and definitely something worth doing more of. About twenty people, I think, came along and everyone was asking such interesting questions that it really took on a life of its own. It always surprises me to hear the similar issues and questions raised independently, although it probably shows we’re doing something right around exploring the issues surrounding carbon rationing.

More humanity and support should be coming to the website very soon. We’re just in the bug-fixing stage.

A lovely article about the public meeting held with the residents of Sipson by Heathrow

http://pathsthroughutopia.wordpress.com/

CRAGs has a workshop slot at the camp on Thursday 16th August. David B and I are definitely going to be there to do a very short presentation and then take part in the discussion about CRAGs. John C, will you be there? If anyone else wants to join in or simply meet up at the camp, please come along.
