Climate demo 8th December 2007

Thread started on 26/9/2007 20:33

The Climate March 2007 is almost upon us! Last year’s saw a brilliant CRAG contingent with a huge banner, balloons representing footprints from around the globe, and around 15-20 CRAGgers sporting our new t-shirts (see the photos). The network has grown considerably over the year and it would be brill to meet or surpass the 2006 showing.

The details will be at: http://portal.campaigncc.org/node/1747 for London, or http://www.globalclimatecampaign.org Worldwide.

So this is a thread for ideas, plans, organisation for that event, in the UK or globally. Let the ideas roll!

Arrangements for demo Sat 8 Dec - please reply

Jessica

Jessica

The timetable is below.

How many CRAGgers are coming? Please reply to this thread if you are!

Now that our numbers have so grown, it would be great to field a large contingent and walk in a group so please come and join us! Hopefully, wearing your limited edition CRAGs Tshirt and possibly a silly hat and any CRAGs-related gimmicks you can think of. Naturally, woolly jumpers (worn under tshirt) will be much in evidence anyway. Extra points for thermal underwear. And bring digital cameras!

We hope to get quality photos and video footage of the event for the website. And of course, there will be a massive party afterwards in Camberwell.

CRAGgers coming from outside London needing somewhere to stay should get in touch – we should be able to help.

We will have two large CRAGs banners, but please feel free to make your own CRAGs banners and posters. There are ready to use templates on the website under resources.

The march starts from Millbank at 12pm. I suggest we meet at 11.30am the Burghers of Calais monument, in the gardens to the right of Parliament as you face the river. It is likely to be very busy, but it seems as good a place as any, provided the police don’t close the gardens. If they do, we’ll hover as near there as possible, so look for CRAGs paraphernalia.

Some of you may be tempted by the cycle demo. I think it will be difficult to do this and meet up with CRAGs group, so, depending on how many of us there are, it might be better if we eschew our bikes for the day and just walk together, so that we make maximum impact. Also easier for carrying flags etc. But if you know better, feel free to share your info.

Final question – time is short, but we want to organise some kind of flyers/ stickers/ badges with CRAGs logo and website. Anyone have ready access to printing facilities at reasonable prices and transport for getting stuff? Let us know asap.

Post-demo meeting on Sunday 9 Dec, London?

Jessica

Jessica

Some of us are keen to use the opportunity of CRAGgers converging in London to have a meeting on Sunday 9 December to discuss various cross-CRAG matters.

This could be a precursor to the all-CRAGs conference weekend planned for 28-30 March in Leeds.

We could meet late morning and combine it with lunch somewhere in central London.

Please reply to this thread if you would like to and can come. We’ll need to know numbers so that we can find a suitable venue.

I like the idea of a CRAGgers conference in Leeds at the end of March.
Sorry won’t be in London for the Climate Change protest, but I’ll do a paid blog (Community Care Magazine)on it…

I’ll be at the march on

I’ll be at the march on Saturday and the party afters. I’d also be keen for a Crag meeting on the Sunday, though if there aren’t enough of us staying over to warrant one, would prefer we just chatted on the march and afterwards in the pub. Cheers!

I’ll be at the March too, and could do a Sunday meeting if I could kip on someone’s sofa.

I agree with Guy that if there’s only low numbers it’s best to keep it informal. However, I think a decent meeting to listen to feedback from groups and discuss progress and where we’re going would be really worthwhile – so I hope loads can make it!

I am tragically unable to come on the march, but can meet you all afterwards. I’ll be free and in central London from about 5:45 or so. Informal sounds good. I’m afraid I can’t offer a sofa to a cragger, but it would be great to all go together to the after-demo party…

informal CRAGs meet-up post-demo on Saturday

Jessica

Jessica

Consensus seems to be that we won’t have a meeting on Sunday, but rather just have post-demo drinks on Saturday for a catch-up, and then adjourn to the party in Camberwell. See you all Saturday! We’re meeting 11.30am, as detailed above.
Don’t forget your cameras!

I’ll be there – won’t be able to make the meet up at 11.30, but i’ll endeavour to find you all later in the day…

Saturday 8 Dec - meet up after rally from 4pm in Grosvenor Arms

Jessica

Jessica

For anyone getting lost on the way, or joining later, we’ll meet post-rally at the Grosvenor Arms on Grosvenor Street W1K. It’s off Grosvenor Sq where rally ends and where speeches and music will be held.

If you think you won’t be able to make the 11.30 meet-up but want to find us during the rally, please swap mobile numbers with someone who can so that we can keep in touch.

Saturday and stickers

Tom and I will be there on Saturday – see you at 11.30am. I don’t think there are any other reps from Hereford this year. We’d have been up for the get together on Sunday, but whatever, we’re probably a bit late in communicating this.

Has anyone got flyers or anything sorted? I checked out prices for CRAG stickers with the website address on them too. 200 for £38 plus VAT, or 500 for £58 plus VAT. Alternatively I buy another colour cartridge myself and some blank stickers tomorrow and try and print some off myself… Would anybody be up for buying a few off me to cover the (lesser) costs? We can go around sticking them to people and passers by.

Vey

We'll buy some stickers. Can anyone print leaflets?

Jessica

Jessica

Vey – Stickers sound great – use whatever mode you find is more efficient time/cost-wise. I’ll buy some stickers off you on behalf of iCRAG. Suggest getting 500, or maybe more if works out cheaper to buy bulk? 500 stickers will be £68.15 inc VAT, which works out 13.6 pence per sticker I think, so I think we’d have to use them sparingly.

If you do the logo, name and website address (like front of the latest business card design), could you also add some kind of one-liner which explains what we do? maybe your ‘taking climate change personally’ line…

I’d still like to do a run of cheap small leaflets, of business card size or maybe quarter-A4 size. but afraid i haven’t had time to organise this. If anyone could, that would be amazing. the latest designs can be taken from the business cards and flags templates.

Look forward to seeing you and Tom on Saturday. Don’t forget your banner!

Guy has uploaded photos from the march (see “climate march 2007” > “files”), and I’ve set them rolling on the front page for a while. I’ve also added a very brief wiki write-up at climate march 2007 – please add anything more you remember eg speeches (if you managed to stay that long)!
