Funding through the EU? A new carbon allowances project

I’ve started this new thread to discuss potential EU funding sources. At the Lambeth Climate Action Group, we’ve heard from Sustainable Energy Action (http://www.sustainable-energy.org.uk), who are proposing a new personal carbon trading project run with EU money. The gist of their project is excerpted below:

————
Sustainable Energy Action have a carbon footprinting, reduction and personal carbon trading project with European funding that they want to run with 100 households in Lambeth partly due to the existence of the Lambeth Climate Action Group(s). It is a high profile Europe-wide pilot project all about cutting carbon emissions. Lambeth sustainability officers Jon Lissimore and Jessica Currie agree that it is an excellent project that represents very good value for money. It requires 50/50 match funding from Lambeth of £15,000. Council funds had been earmarked but have since become unavailable.
————

Note that none of this is available on their website but comes from the Lambeth Climate Group’s emailing list (thanks Duncan!). I’m sure SEA will go ahead with this project – whether in Lambeth or elsewhere in South London – and it’s a venture the CRAGs should probably link up with. Moreover, we should be investigating where this pot of EU money lies. Any leads, anyone? I may email SEA at some point to quiz them further.

Say nice things about the SEA

One of their staff members, Hilary is thinking of joining the Islington CRAG.

Hi, I am indeed thinking of joining Islington CRAG when I move to Hackney later this year. I work for SEA, but am not involved in the project mentioned. All I know about it is that it’s called Echo Action and the lead partner is based in Venice. The person to contact at SEA is Ros Bedlow RosB@sustainable-energy.org.uk

This is good news. But how

This is good news. But how certain are you it will go ahead if they dont get the matching funds? The matching appears to be a pre-requisite?

Use of funds & CRAG structures

It’s a great idea in principle to pursue funding for CRAGs. But I think we need think beforehand how we would use the money, and how this would fit in with, and affect the informal structures we are working to already. Would we be supporting an office, staff? Or would we concentrate on web infrastructure? Even publicity?

However it is spent, would we not have to formalise CRAG structures (e.g. charitable status) to some degree before receiving any money?

We could have an "official

We could have an “official CRAG” that is run by the council. They select the citizens in the scheme form the fuel poor, politicians etc. and it runs on the funds independantly but linked to the voluntary CRAG network.

just a thought
