Group carbon information

I have been redesigning the group pages to incorporate a list view, topics browser etc. and I want to add a panel summarising each group’s carbon information. What I have so far is:

  • start/end of carbon year
  • last year’s target, footprint and consequent carbon debt (or saving!)
  • current year’s target

Any other info needed? And any ideas on how to present the information graphically to make it easily comparable between groups?

David.

Dare I mention it, Carbon

Dare I mention it, Carbon Price?

Why not? This is important to see beside the carbon debt/savings and target. This year’s and last year’s.

Forgot that one. Thanks!

Think this should be posted under website not forum.

Charts of individuals compared to groups will be in next drupal carbon release. I was not planning to do much in the way of targets or comparing groups. I think this of interest to existing crag members and not necessarily potential members. But of course it could be added to the drupal carbon module. There’s a discussion between myself and another drupal user about graphs and wedges at the bottom of this page.

However you can go to

http://my.carbonrationing.org.uk/carbon/footprint/icrag

and get all the iCRAG users and will soon show CO2 (for most likely the previous year) and bar charts of individuals. I see this link (or a similar tink to Torch etc) as being very important to add to local pages because potential members will want to know about the footprints of other people in the group.

I don’t have any view about integration into my.carbon. Having a separate database is good because it avoids lock in into any footprinting software. I am more concerned about users or groups having the option to use the carbon module from the www. pages i.e. this website (which you said you would arrange before xmas!).

I think we should forget

I think we should forget about the website group – it makes for too many layers. It will be simpler to have everything under a website tag on the main forum.

Perhaps we should have an og_carbon module that would be a bridge between the my.carbon module (or torch etc.) and our groups. It would summarise individuals’ information and maintain its own separate database, and could also pull in this data from different sources.

Carbon info for the groups

Hi David

I think it would be very interesting to see the average carbon footprint for an individual in each group (based on the standard criteria), on perhaps the main group page, where you can easily compare them without having to go into each group … my thinking being it would be interesting to see who seems to be winning the league! Eg are the urbanites outdoing the ruralists or vice versa etc….! A bit of healthy competition…

Don’t know whether that is even a possibility.

Good idea

Yes, that’s a good idea and should be possible. It could go in a table on the groups page, along with columns for carbon price and allowances. Inter-group competition would definitely raise the stakes!
