Just a quick update on relevant happenings at the Lambeth Climate Action Group meeting on 17th Jan, last week:

- A Lambeth Council CRAG is being developed by a Councillor, with workplace colleagues. – Some volunteers came forward to develop a Lambeth community CRAG, and should be approaching the Clapham CRAG to find out more before beginning. – Ambitious plans discussed for a personal carbon trading scheme, not taking the CRAG model, to be set up in a Lambeth housing estate. I’m afraid I forget now the name of the NGO/charity behind this proposal but Duncan L may post up details if he sees this. Basically a proposition to start a scheme where participants given money/artificial currency to do the trading – so they’re not forfeiting real money – and revenues would also go into doing up the housing estate so all houses are v energy efficient. Sounds great and may have real financial backing – could easily complement CRAGs.

Great news. And can you play pretend poker ?

Superb that the council have committed. And very brave of them politically. Other councils struggle a lot unless there is a democratic consensus or process underway. So well done to them.

However I’m not sure about giving fake money. I heard a saying recently:

“Playing pretend poker by keeping the score on a piece of paper is pointless. Your real money needs to be in the game, because the psychological impact of the money is an integral aspect of how you behave”. This is true of CRAG’s too.

Point is that they may not behave as they would if real money were on the table. The output may not be realistic for a real world scenario.

All the same, its an opportunity not to miss so go for it!
