someone mentioned on a thread recently that there were no protest songs in the mould of dylan’s hard rain. as a huge dylan fan i agree this may be true, but it got me thinking. so here are my top three climate anthems, in no particular order, with reasons/explanations. please let me know yours.
‘honking antelope’ by serj tankian (system of a down). i could have picked many of the songs from this focused, angry album. it features the line ‘we are the cause of a world that’s gone wrong’
‘it’s not over’ by the klaxons. its a great reminder we are still alive, and there is hope. written as an 80’s dance hit originally, it obviously was not intended as a climate change anthem, but who cares?
‘videotape’ by radiohead. the image of being played a videotape of your life just before you are carted off by mephistopheles to the flames is an enduring one – for me anyway! a truly fantastic song from a truly fantastic album.
