Carbon reduction is any action that lowers carbon emissions. Twin approaches to carbon reduction are to increase energy efficiency, and to transfer to lower carbon energy sources. Often both approaches are necessary in combination, because the energy densities available from renewable sources are much lower and more patchy than those from fossil fuels.
