Ideas for v2 (Windy Willow) (current)

sitewide

  • re-examine overall site structure (e.g. files section; home; intro)
  • all pages should have some indication of where you are in the site structure (eg. top links could change to grey), no “orphan” pages (user pages still to go)
  • about link at top, & page
  • tag bar/panel should be shrunk, moved to top RHS, added to fourm and wiki posts to link different areas of the site.
  • quick link to local group (use user page code), position? (in test)
  • simplify user registration system
  • captcha codes against bot registration
  • forgot username link?
  • users should be able to delete their own accounts
  • people should be encouraged to keep contact open (change text, explain email address isn’t given out)

forum

  • add admin tools links to forum & wiki eg. send group email, members lists etc. (could be used to ban someone, if necessary, from certain parts of the site)
  • add calendar

wiki

  • remove “most recent”
  • remove comments (link instead into forum)
  • simplify layout and make similar to forum (remove tag bars and browsers; add normal tag links)
  • filters: random image, user link, tag link, role link

groups

  • external website link
  • re-add lost group functions, inc. “send group email”, “invite users”
  • communal file upload / editing capability (done, but available to all craggers; however the “public” switch can be used to control group visiblity
  • email notifications need to be clarified to reduce replies to info@: post faq; alter email format
  • separate pages/lists for different countries (see http://drupal.org/node/162752)
  • edit link for group intro
  • patch og_promote to assign users to roles correctly
  • groups available at registration (via select) and split by country
  • note “no posts here” when there aren’t any results

overview page

  • separate group lists and maps by country
  • distinguish between active and non-active groups

usability

  • file uploading not clear (add other > add file): cut down on node types (are images/links used much?) and add direct links for adding
  • groups for selective email notifications should be available directly from the account>edit page

members

  • a readily available list of members (table with username, first, last, picture columns); who’s new; filter by role eg CRAGgers, CRAG admins, site admins
  • member photograhps
  • profile fields: first last names, website, bio, (sections: details; carbon; crags)
  • remove usernodes
  • userpage tabs could follow standard format (eg groups page)

admin

  • overview of groups: members and activity and edit links (similar to user table used in people overview page)

filespace

  • separate file-space: different colour clone of forum for files/photos only.
  • browse through images of the same tag
  • image thumbnails in list view

Ideas for v3

sitewide

  • built-in glossary (could link to wikipages)
  • upgrade to Drupal 5.1
  • context-sensitive help popups
  • improved inline image addition
  • sitewide icons for each tag (footprinting, offsets etc.) or post type (file, image etc.)
  • “latest” as a table layout, so you could sort by title, author, last update, node type etc.
  • advanced search page (restrict to forum, groups etc.)
  • re-examine tag links under titles
  • Wikipedia-style markup
  • login could redirect to the current page (instead of user account) (registration uses logintobbogan redirect; login redirect works but displays ?destination=node on login page)
  • “print this page” links
  • email notification link to replace “my settings” (next to RSS, grey in/out)
  • drupal-configurable menus & settings (convert hard-coded items)

front page

  • short intro with links to: full introduction, CRAGs guide
  • group posts, forum posts and wiki links blocks (+description +feed links)
  • quotes from CRAGgers
  • summary of CRAGs current targets/prices/footprints (rolling over time, not synched)

wiki

  • read/pages/images tabs to alternate between wikipage display, pages list, images list for each category
  • integrated revisions/differences display (d5 diff module)

groups

  • change to LHS block rather than bar, for group functions?
  • use modular block approach, allowing admins to control what to display
  • calendars for groups
  • integrate carbon footprints
  • member registration system: groups need to be available when a user registers (via a drop-down list), and have the ability to send a message to the admin; groups could have a special “registration code” that would sign in their members automatically when they register
  • “daily digest” email notification (filed a request at http://drupal.org/node/127176)
  • requests for subscription should be accompanied by a message
  • add module to integrate mailing lists and og website space
  • each group should have their own email address and contact page (filed a request at http://drupal.org/node/132552)
  • capacity for groups to change their homepage display (eg. to the “about” page) (link to wiki?)
  • wiki space for groups (requires group-only access to editing nodes; see also communal file upload)
  • search within group spaces

  • carbon diaries, and feedback (re: Oxford)
  • email notification settings should all be made from the account > edit page (not on separate “my settings” pages)

  • who’s online (live) (at bottom of forum & whole page within “people”)
  • rehash layout along CRAG space lines
