Attending: Russell, Kat, Jake, Irene, Sunny, Andy, Lusi, Daryl, Rae, Sonia and Warren.
Apologies: Cindy and Iain
Thanks go to Russell for kindly hosting, to everyone for bringing along their numbers and some great grub and special thanks to Sonia and Warren for telling us what they are up to in the sustainability team at the council.
Most of the evening was spent in open discussion with Sonia and Warren. Both work for Glasgow City Council’s Development and Regeneration Services department under the directorship of Steve Inch. Sonia is the Climate Change officer and Warren is the Carbon Management officer.
Warren wrote the city’s Environment Strategy and its Carbon Management Programme. These are available at:

Sonia is working on the city’s Climate Change Strategy. This is due out as a draft for consultation at the end of May and will include the findings of a public attitude survey carried out earlier this year. Sonia invited the group to contribute info to the report about both Towards Transition Glasgow and gCRAG. Lusi agreed to provide info on Transition and Andy agreed to provide info on CRAGs.
Also due out in May is the Sustainable Glasgow report, work funded by the council and carried out by Richard Bellingham at Strathclyde University.
There was a robust exchange of views concerning the city’s efforts to green itself and its citizens. Warren and Sonia agreed to keep the group up to date on carbon and climate change developments within council and encouraged us to write polite but firm letters to Steve Inch (DRS) on these issues, to Robert Booth (LES) on waste and recycling and to Stephen Purcell (Council Leader) on wider issues. Daryl suggested the group might like to meet for letter writing sessions. Daryl to propose date.
Those who were able to stay a little longer agreed that the proposed 1750kg allowance with a 10p per kg penalty was appropriate for 2009.
All members have submitted their 1st quarter numbers with the exception of Will, Angela and Mark who are invited to confirm whether they wish to count with us this year. The updated spreadsheet has been loaded onto the website. All gCRAGgers are invited to check they are happy with the data. Please check my queries at the bottom left.
First quarter footprints vary between 150kg and 1200kg with an average at 478kgCO2. This is only 10% above our rather onerous ration. Well done folks. See you in July if not before e.g. at the SCCS rally next Wednesday.
