Hi all,
Please add to/amend this as required…
Eleven of us, including nine CRAGgers met at Andy’s for a meal, a CRAG chat and to celebrate the tightening up of the UK Climate Change Bill. Lusi and Will unfortunately couldn’t make it but we look forward to seeing them next time.
Agenda items included:
1. Where are we?
Most of us had all either already submitted or brought along our readings. Andy agreed that he would compile them and send them out to the group asap. Two of us had been on long rail journeys this quarter, Russell to Greece and Iain to Austria. Both recommended the experience and had not found it too difficult to book the tickets although they had been much more expensive than the plane.
2. What should be done with any end of year carbon fund?
Russell asked what we might do with any carbon fund this year. (Last year the sum of £55 had been divided amongst the savers in proportion to their share of the savings). A consensus formed around the idea of splitting any fund between local anti-airport expansion campaigning and local tree planting groups. There was no great enthusiasm from potential “savers” to pocket “their dues” although some were keen that the savers should ultimately decide on the destination of any carbon fund. Andy asked who was still intending to take part in the financial aspect of the CRAG. Daryl, Cindy, Kat, Jake, Iain, Andy, Sunny and Russell all agreed to take part.
3. CRAG research
Rachel Howell, a researcher for the Oxford Institute of Environmental Change, had visited and interviewed some of us over the summer. Andy promised to find out if she has produced a paper.
4. Media
Kat will be featured in the Ecologist thanks to visit with two other CRAGgers to Westminster earlier in the year as winners of Oxfam’s carbon footprint competition.
5. Date for end of year meeting
We agreed to get together to settle up our 2008 carbon accounts on the evening of Thursday 15 January 2009. Venue to be confirmed.
6. Announcements
Scotland Against New Coal gathering outside Scottish Power on Atlantic Quay on Friday 31/10/08
Climate March at 12.30pm in Glasgow on 06/12/08
