My first year CRAGGING
zazierose
Hello
I found my first year cragging pretty interesting. Some things I don’t miss- I’ve got used to not having a fridge or a freezer and having switched to being a vegan for environmental reasons, most of the food I eat doesn’t need chilling anyway. And as the heating is generally off, the kitchen is at a larder like temperature anyway. I had pretty much decided to give up flying anyway.
But I did miss a hot bath, so I did the sums and it turns out that a hot bath in my house is about 1kg of carbon. So the odd, even the regular, hot bath isn’t going to break my budget, especially if I use the bath water after for washing clothes (wuith a final rinse in cold water after).
I think it is about finding out what matters to you, learning not to go to uncomfortable extremes and being more aware. it’s good to hav eth esupport fo other people doing these things so you can have a good discussion. I’ve gotten interested in using up “stored” carbon that we have in society, so I’m having a “Buy Nothing New Year”, seeing if I can get by with my own things and second hand purchases/gifts only this year (my one exception being underwear). I think so much carbon is used in the production and transport of things we don’t really want (anyone got a footspa in the cupboard) or use (how about those wardrobes full of never worn clothes), and this is something we need to address as well as consumption via transport/heating/lighting.
Oh, and I’ve met some great people through CRAGGING.
