who are we?

One of the first questions people ask about CRAGs is: “What sort of people are you?”
Elsewhere on this site, it has been suggested we should have some sort of CRAGs census. So far we all seem rather shy about ourselves. The result is we don’t really know who we are!

Glaswegians are famed for their openness. You’ve guessed what’s coming next…

This thread is intended to give members of the Glasgow CRAG the opportunity to introduce themselves. Maybe it might even encourage other CRAGs to do the same. Call it a do-it-yourself census.

Hmm. What to say? 39, civil engineer, solo living in a 1-bedroom flat in the West End of this great city. Woke up to climate change 2 years ago after reading Mark Lynas’ book High Tide. In CRAGs for many reasons but perhaps most importantly because it allows me to do at a local scale what I think our governments should be doing at a global scale. Favourite mode of transport: bike.

i am a phd student working on HIV. I joined the glasgow CRAG because i was becoming frustrated that any action i took to reduce emissions would be so tiny compared to global total. as a group, our reduction is just that bit less tiny. I would also like what we do to be an experiment for future large-scale rationing.

the hardest thing for me to stop doing is flying. i love to travel whenever possible, but from now on its all going to be the slow method. my girlfriend and i aspire to circumnavigate the globe without flying once we have finished our phds.
