1. Settlement 1st Dec 2007 to May 31st 2008
John A provided spreadsheet and charts showing proposed settlement.
Tom pointed out that Sibylle’s data had been column switched with his.
Action – JA to fix and reissue spreadsheet.
Done. See http://www.carbonrationing.org.uk/islington/files/3rd-settlement.
Home offices. JA said that Doug and Lucy had agreed that 20% of all energy could be assigned to a home office. However JA said that this change could not be included easily in this settlement because the software did not allow these kind of adjustments (without re-entering a new series of meter readings). So JA had made-one off entries to Lucy’s account to allow for her home office for the last six months. However Doug’s account has not been changed, Doug’s partner’s home office is still being accounted for at 25% and would not change to 20% until next settlement. The meeting accepted this temporary compromise.
Action – JA to change Doug’s home office rate on next settlement and future settlements.
Green energy suppliers, that old chestnut. JA said that those declaring to be on green tariffs where still getting a massive 50% carbon discount. Jessica and others said that this should have been changed for this settlement. JA said that, again, this was difficult to change without re-entering sequences of meter readings.
So the meeting took the opportunity to revisit exactly what we wanted to with green tariffs. The meeting decided to categorise all green tariffs into 2 groups, rather than the original single group. A ‘slightly green tariff’ would attract a 5% carbon discount rate and would include green energy companies that generally promote renewables such as ecotricity. The ‘more green tariff’ would attract at least 10% carbon discount rate and would include companies that retire ROCs e.g. Good Energy. Alison suggested that the second carbon discount rate should be 20% to encourage switching.
Action- JA to propose a two lists of suppliers that would match our 2 carbon tariffs. The meeting decided to retrospectively apply modified green tariffs to the just completed period (which would be reflected in the next settlement) – Action JA.
Jessica said that there were rounding errors caused a significant accumulative error if many small trips were itemised on the website.
Action JA : make sure that carbon calculated to 2 decimal places (Kg).
Alison asked what websites could be used for UK rail travel. Jessica recommended: http://www.co2balance.uk.com/co2calculators/rail-travel/
2. AOB
We had a wide ranging discussion on carbon reduction measures.
