Greetings,
Happy arbitrary numerical division of time!
Have we reached the end of the carbon year? Is it time to review our carbon statements, check for any omissions and total them up?
Thanks!
Amanda

As Peter says, the first meeting of the Leamington-WM CRAG voted for a start on 1st April 2006 running to 31st March 2007. I will post the minutes below. They are also available on the Leamington folder in cragcentral. http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/cragcentral/files/Leamington-WM%20CRAG/ andy Minutes of 1st Leamington CRAG meeting - 2nd April 2006written on 7/1/2007 17:02
Dear All A big thanks to those of you who made it to Leamington and found the right place despite the email black-out from my end. It was great to meet face to face at last. We were 9 in the end: 1. 2006 CO2 target = 4500kg CO2 (Almost unanimous. DR favoured cuts relative to current emissions levels) 2. Penalty on each kg of CO2 debt at end of year = 4p (Unanimous, I think) 3. Limit on 2006 individual CO2 debt payment = £100 but optional (Almost unanimous. NK and AR favoured no cap) 4. Start date = 01/04/06 (Almost unanimous. AR and BP favoured retaining 01/01/06) 5. “Green” grid electricity use to be counted but not charged if from “100%” renewable source e.g.Good Energy or Ecotricity. (Almost unanimous. NB favoured exempting non-grid renewables only) 6. Public transport (train and bus) to be counted and charged at flat rate of 0.07kgCO/km or 0.11kgCO2/mile. (Almost unanimous. AR reckoned too fiddly) 7. Members to report energy/fuel use as and when bills, MOTs, etc are received OR on monthly meter/mileage reading basis as they wish. 8. Left for next time: What to do with CO2 fund? Who controls CO2 fund? Review of all the above! (Unanimous) Please let me know anyone if I have got any of this wrong. I have tried to keep it as brief as possible, highlighting only the dissenting views so they are not forgotten. The “for” arguments will be more easily remembered by all and someone might like to summarise these at some stage. best wishes andy Time to make a date!written on 16/3/2007 22:54
After a bit of emailing and phoning around it looks like there will be at least nine CRAGgers (AB, AR, AW, DP, KV, NK, NB, PA and PS – you know who you are!) who will be settling up at the end of this our first Leamington year. When we include the 7 family members whose carbon is also being counted we will have a respectable community of 16. Fingers crossed our carbon total will come in on or under our group target of 72 tonnes (i.e. 16 × 4500kg)! Along with five folk in Oxford (who settled up in January) and at least 10 more in Hereford (who will be settling up at the same time as us), we will be bringing the total of 1st year veteran CRAGgers to the statistically significant population total of 30! So where can we meet on April 13th/14th? Any thoughts? Meeting Upwritten on 18/3/2007 21:29
Hi Andy We have a venue and a time!written on 23/3/2007 19:37
Dear All, Nick has kindly offered to hoste our end of year settling up. Date and Time: 6.30pm on Friday 13th April Nick is proposing to do a vegetarian dinner for us although he might appreciate some help with this! And perhaps some of us could bring the odd bottle of something… It will be essential to bring with you your best estimate of your 2006/7 personal carbon footprint. Photocopies of any bills and MOTs that you might collected over the year would also be good. Looking forward to seeing you all on the day. Andy in case you were wondering...written on 23/4/2007 18:10
Seven of us got together at the Coventry Peace House on 13th April to look back on our first carbon year. Three more attended in spirit having submitted their carbon accounts. Along with 4 dependent kids and 2 consenting spouses, the Leamington CRAG finished 2006/7 with 16 people. Our preliminary total footprint (including all electricity and our best estimates of public transport use) came to just over 53t or 3.3t per person. Footprints varied between 0.73 (Peter’s kids) and 7.3t (Andy’s!). Three of us owed the carbon fund a total of £222 which it was agreed would be donated to Practical Action. http://www.practicalaction.org/ A more detailed summary will be posted here shortly along with our reflections on our respective carbon years. It was agreed that the Leamington CRAG should be superseded by three separate CRAGs: Birmingham, Coventry and Stratford. Many thanks to Nick and all at the Peace House for hosting us so hospitably. |
Leamington Carbon Year

I believe the Leamington group started in April 2006, so the end of the year should be 31 March 2007. However, I am not sure how many people we part of the group at that point (I wasn’t), so I would be happy to change and use a pro-rata calculation if others wish to do so.
