Hi, if anyone had any advice on this that’d be great!

Our boiler has just expired and would take £350 to revive.. Noone knows how old it is, as our house was bought 3 years ago and the boiler was in the house.. I can’t even find any information on the type..

Does anyone know: – How much of a difference does it make to have a new efficient one? – How much/which is the cheapest efficient one? (we’re an ethically minded but pretty poor housing coop and we need a new roof too!) – How much/which is a super-efficient one?

Ta!

Hi Despina

If your existing boiler needs that much work to repair it, probably worth looking at a new condensing boiler (assuming yours isn’t that type!). For more info try http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/home_improvements/heating_and_hot_wa…

I don’t know if any grants towards the cost are available, from a quick search on the web, some local authorities do, but Leeds doesn’t seem to be one of them.

Cheers

I had a quote recently from John Eastham (267 3051) for replacing our ancient (1980s) boiler and a couple of other bits. £1395 with no VAT. Model quoted: Vokera Mynute 20VHE

I’ve heard good reports of this firm, but I believe they’re currently very busy.

All replacement boilers now have to be condensing ones and their efficiency is typically around 90%.

Boiler efficiency database is at http://www.sedbuk.com/.

Bill: did your quote include labour? I just found a similar model online for less than £800 (just a quick search: http://www.heatandplumb.com/acatalog/Vokera_Systems_Gas_Boiler_Mynute_35…), were your “bits” £500? We’ll try and get someone to help us install it (pull the poor housing coop in need of kind help one)..

That quote included labour. The extras were labour for replacing a motorised valve and a programmer – both of which I’d bought beforehand.
