Let’s all get in the habit of posting our monthly carbon footprints here – nice and easy to add up at the end of the carbon year, that way.

So my February total is…
Total carbon (kg): 393
From transport: 119 (of which public transport: 95)
From energy: 274 (all from electricity)

This is my highest monthly footprint yet! I suspect this is because I have been using the wasteful electric storage heaters most nights – this is my only source of space heating and it has been sooooo cold, and it is a very leaky, draughty, rental flat despite my efforts to deal with draughts where I can. In addition, I took a return trip from London to Edinburgh on the train in this period, which contributes most of my travel footprint. I can report that the sleeper train was both exciting and, because I booked well in advance, it was also bargainous. I have just bought a second-hand bike and so hope that in the coming months my travel footprint will reduce a little more…

Hi, thanks again Emma for your promptness in forwarding figures. Here are mine:

56.25 kg on electricity, a whopping 167.4 kg on gas (due to big freeze and leaky house), 56.1 kg on travel (due to staying at home and not wanting to go out!). Total, like you, Emma, almost the highest yet: 279.75 kg for the month.

Still cycling, moving into a more carbon-efficient house…growing veg..the story continues,
Zaria, x
