Hi everyone,
we had our first quarter meeting last week to see how we were getting on and discuss any problems people had with calculating our carbon footprint.
We agreed that calculating car emissions can be complicated especialy for people who often share journeys. We felt that each person should make a reasonable estimate of their emissions by whichever method best suits them. For example, I share a car with my husband and we use it mainly for shared leisure journeys, so I add up the mileage, work out the emmissions for the car then divide it by two. Another member of the group logs all his fuel use. We are not abiding by the CRAG ‘short guide’ which says that all the emissions are charged to the car owner regardless of who uses it. Any more ideas on this most welcome.
So far 9 people have submitted their 1st quarter emission totals, and they average at 384kg CO2 for 3 months (April – june) which means that things are looking good for us to reach our target as a group. If everyone else could send me their totals that would be great (alexcochrane@doctors.org.uk).
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 2nd October at 7.30, at Hamish’s house as normal. If anyone doesn’t know where that is please e mail or phone me.
Alex.
