The Sevenoaks CRAG launched on Wednesday with a well-received (I think!) introductory meeting, where I gave a presentation on “Climate, Carbon Rationing & CRAGs”, followed by a questions & answers session and lively discussion. The turnout was 25-30, with most signing up for further updates. We set a date for a next meeting (a footprinting session on 25th April). The group may split into Sevenoaks and Otford CRAGs.
There was an interesting range of questions, many of which were similar to those raised in other CRAGs: about the mechanics of footprinting, common allowances vs. individual reduction targets (ie not exlcuding high emitters), the target audience for CRAGs (are we converting, enabling existing greens, or lobbying government) ... and many more.
We were also fortunate to be able to link up with the Council’s Energy Conservation Officer, Louise Shrubsole, who outlined local energy efficiency schemes & grants (I’ll add some links) and gave out rather good information packs. Otford is apparently a hotspot for leaky housing stock, and has been prioritised by the Council, so we can link up with their efforts. The Kent Energy Centre will also be able to help us with any help or information we may need.
Overall, a really positive experience!
