I just wanted to post a summary of the notes about tools that are already in other threads.
1) I am tracking my household footprint at this site: http://www.carbondiet.org/profile/arising
- While not perfect, it is a good place for me to at least track some data real time. – They also had a v. interesting discussion about whether public transport emissions should be attributable to individuals or not! http://forum.carbondiet.org/forums/3/topics/22
2) I am actually tempted to use http://transportdirect.co.uk and take my public transport emissions from there, though I believe they use lower conversion factors than CRAGs. E.g. For a recent trip to Exeter St David’s, transport direct gave me 17.2 kg for 286.4 kms, whereas the CRAGS conversion would have given me 20.05kgs. Quite annoying really, because just having transport direct calculate it is quite handy!!
3) The CRAG conversion sheet (available on this site) is the standard for our group, combined with the little conversion book that Oli and Rachel have copies of…
4) The government’s http://actonco2.direct.gov.uk is pretty, interactive, and I would recommend it to people just learning about this stuff. It is a bit opaque in the calculations, but does save your results in a profile so you can go back and compare later on.
5) Resurgence http://www.resurgence.org/carboncalculator/ seems to use the toughest conversion factors, and makes adjustments for your socio-economic group and attributes a proportion of industrial emissions to each person. Which is fair enough, though depressing ; )
6) These two footprint calculators are the best for ecological footprints http://www.earthday.net/Footprint/ and http://footprint.wwf.org.uk/ , though they give different results
7) http://www.foodcarbon.co.uk is the site we use for food, it is good that it gives a breakdown of results, but does not store your data so you can change and compare later on.

This site looks nicer that carbondiet (mentioned in 1) in the post above) but I don’t think it has any additional functionality re: public transport etc. etc. http://www.thecarbonaccount.com just aimed at people who drive cars ; )
