detailsbackgroundI'm semi retired. Just working in our local shop part-time now, having been an organic shop keeper for many years. My husband & I are keen gardeners(the shop grew out of having had an organic market garden, which we have now retired from), particularly veg. & enjoy walking. We have had a concern for the environment for many years & once the shock of learning the more recent facts about global warming had had time to settle a little felt we had to focus our energy on doing what we could. Our own home is insulated to a high standard, we have a wood burning stove as well as gas central heating & solar hot water. We have made a decison not to fly & minimise our car use despite livine in a rural area with fairly little public transport. |
CRAGs“”We were persuaded to start a CRAG in our village by realising that there has to be a grass roots movemnt to get governments to take the necessary action. We find it is a good way of keeping ourselves focused on the issues & thinking with others about lifestyle changes. |
carbonprofileUsing the CRAG Carbon Calculator with modifications that our group has agreed our personal footprints for 2007 (the year before we started the group) our footprints were 2,790kg each. The modifications we have made are:- 1. to include a multiplyer for green electricity of 0.25 (half that for conventional suppliers) 2. to include wood at 25% of the rate for the equvalent weight of bituminous coal. Our group have agreed that all members will aim for a 10% reduction over the next calendar year. |
