detailsnameRobin Smith backgroundMy background is in telecommunications engineering, and recently I spent about 7 years in sales & marketing. Since 2005 I have been working on Energy & Carbon, looking into the politics and science of climate change and what can be done by society to mitigate and adapt to the outcomes. I believe that the technical challenges to the climate problem are already resolved or at least will be solved very easily once the imperative for action has finally been accepted by the majority. It is the people and its leadership that present the real challenges around the values and prejudices of particular interest groups. website |
CRAGsIslington, Leeds, Wokingham (admin), WSP (other roles website team) “”A great way to introduce people to accepting responsibility for their carbon emissions. So far my experience with CRAG's in terms of it s likely success have shown that personal carbon allowances cannot be converted into fiscal policy to mitigate and abate carbon for a number of complex practical and political reasons. Then again neither can anything else. It looks likely we will be regulated at high cost once the dangerous outcomes of climate change become clear and present. This could be a long time coming. |
carbonprofileOn target for under 4000kg this year. A reduction of 50% on last year. This will be a one time reduction without further help from the system. Next year I will have to give up my car and move house to make further significant reductions. Obviously these are not practical measures that can be expected from the majority. Everyone could do it overnight but what is lost on most protagonists is that they WONT! I am planning to develop a near zero carbon home which is not that difficult technically and cheaper than buying a new, poorly built, mass developer high carbon home. Getting the land and permission is the hard part. expertiseCarbon fiscal policy (tax) More about me here: http://fon.gs/robinsmith |
