(Including shared responsibility for government, leisure centres, etc. Data according to REAP, by far the most comprehensive and scientific tool. You can use it by going to http://footprint.wwf.org.uk, completing the initial rubbish survey, then making an account and using it to add all the other things you do).
Home
- Private rented, not very energy efficient home but we keep space heating to a minimum, curtains generally closed, etc.
- Never leave things on standby, mostly energy efficient light bulbs by now, I've measured the energy use of all our electrical goods and we keep our bills low
- We're on Good Energy's tariff
- We recycle just about everything we can manage, including composting, and I don't buy much so don't produce much waste anyway
Transport
- I mostly cycle to work and my girlfriend's house, occasionally using train or bus otherwise
- I've never learned to drive! So I always go places by train or bus, or sometimes packed into a full car.
- I don't fly, and recently the train for a work conference in Ljubljana in Slovenia
Food
- I try to mostly buy local, seasonal organic veg from a co-op at BedZED (where I work)
- I cook most of my own food, rather than buying processed
- I try hard to minimise food waste
- I've cut down on meat to only eat it once a week, though I do like my milk & cheese!
- I grow a little of my own food in a friend's garden
expertiseI work with REAP (eco and carbon footprinting) in my job, I know quite a lot about different technologies and strategies, and I have lots of experience in grassroots campaigning and facilitation
